Ash/Elm – Y1/2

Hello everyone and welcome to the Ash and Elm pages.  We will celebrate our learning here, showing and telling you what we have been doing.

We have been . . .

Learning about Florence Nightingale and Thomas Edison.

In English, we are learning about writing letters and have written letter to the local school nurse inviting her to our school to talk about nursing.

In maths, we are learning about data handling and place value.

We have been . . .

Learning about the Great Fire of Learning and Samuel Pepys. We also wrote book reviews in Year 2 about The Gruffalo.

In English we have been learning  how to write diaries. The children have been writing diary entries about The Great Fire of London.

The children in Year 1 had a visit from the Banbury Fire and learned about fire safety and the role of fire service.

We have been . . .

Holding a very special banquet in honor of King Henry VIII. The children took part in singing, dancing, drumming and joke telling. But most of of the all, the children enjoyed eating food and drink fit for a king.

We have been . . .

In English, learning about diaries and writing a diary about our special guest King Henry VIII.

In Maths, learning about quarters, halves and thirds and telling the time especially half past, o’clock, quarter to and quarter past. Year 1 have been learning about 2d/3d shape and time as we well.

In History, we have been learning about the Tudors and especially Henry VIII.

We have been . . .

Happy New Year and welcome back.

Today, we were visited by a very special guest. Henry VIII made a surprise appearance during our assembly and he has invited us to a banquet in his honor. The children have written invitations to some very special people in the like school like Princes Ferens, Princess Gould and Princess Thomas. The banquet will be held in the school hall on Wednesday 18 January 2016. There will be food, music, dancing and comedy.

Elm 2, Ash/Elm and Ash 1 & 2 have performed  their dress rehearsal to some of the classes of the school. Once again, the performances were brilliant!

7/12/16

Elm 1 were the first class to have their dress rehearsal to some of the classes of the school. Despite being nervous, the children performed amazingly.

We have been . . .

In English, have been learning about traditional tales like The Three Billy Goats Gruff, Jack and the Beanstalk and The Gingerbread man. We will soon writing our own traditional tales.

In computing, we have been learning how to code and debug using Scratch Jr.

In maths, we will carry on with our learning of the four operations.

As the week progresses we will be learning about the Christmas story and taking part in some Arts and crafts activities.

I enjoyed creating a race of Scratch using the animals.


November 9 2016- Cotswold Wildlife Park

The children and teachers in Year 1 and 2 enjoyed a fantastic day at Cotswold Wildlife Park. The children were brilliantly behaved and enjoyed looking at all the different animals.

Homework

In Year 1, the children will be given a set of weekly spellings to learn – these are words to help the children in their writing. In addition, the children should reading at least 5 times a week for ten minutes.

In Year 2, children have a weekly maths task to complete. This is given on Friday to be handed back in on the following Thursday. Also, the children will be given a set of weekly spellings to learn – these are words to help the children in their writing. Date: 8/11/10 – Term 2

In English, Year 1 have been learning about traditional tales, in particular Three Billy Goats Gruff – the children have enjoyed story mapping and performing this story. Year 2 have been learning about recounts in preparation for our Key Stage 1 trip to Cotswold Wildlife Park on Thursday 10 November – the children and staff are most excited! During our English lessons, Year 2 have been learning about time adverbs: next, after and finally and writing in the past tense.

In Maths, Year 2 have been learning about 2d shape and symmetry, multiplication and subtraction.

In Year 1, the children have been learning about adding 1, subtracting 1, writing numbers as words and place value:tens and ones.

We will now begin practicing for our Christmas Production of Santa’s Hat. The children will have lots of fun learning and performing the show to parents. Please look on the recent newsletter for dates and times.

We said . . .

I have enjoyed learning about the different shapes and going on a shape hunt.


 

Date: 17/10/10 – Term 1


We have been . . .

Our topic during Term 1 and 2 has been called Animal Antics. We have been learning about local and worldwide habitats, life cycles, and  adaptation. In geography, we have been learning about the the continents and cities around the world and British geography.

Our RE learning has been about creation in different faiths and cultures.

In maths, we have been learning about place value, adding and subtraction, and symmetry. Year 2 have also been learning their 2,5 and 10 times tables.

During term 1, the children have been learning the features of a information text and learning about hedgehogs and rabbits. They have had the opportunity to write an information text about an animal of their choice. The children were very confident writing under sub headings!

Our story writing during term 1 has been Dear Zoo in Year 1 and Kipper Gets Scared. The children have enjoyed reading the stories and inventing their own versions. We have learned about punctuation and strong adjectives.


We said . . .

I have enjoyed learning about the different animals. I never knew their are so many countries. I enjoyed creating my symmetrical butterfly – symmetry is fun. I learnt a lot about how God created the world in seven days.
