Football Association Girls Football Festival
On Tuesday 11th July 2017 ten girls from Year Three and Four were treated to a morning out at the Oxfordshire Football Association girl’s football festival at Oxford City Football Club in Marsh Lane, Oxford.
The festival was aimed specifically at girls and to try and get more playing football in Oxfordshire.
We started the day with some friendly games against the other Oxfordshire schools. All of the girls played well and their individual skills and team play improved with each game played.
Following the games we had several other activities. Our first was a refereeing master class from local female referees. The girls enjoyed blowing their whistles and brandishing the yellow and red cards sending Mr Davies and Mrs Thomas to the stands!!
We then had a coaching workshop with FA coaches which we are hoping will also be visiting school in the future. This was followed by a session with Charlotte Lade, one of the world’s leading professional football freestylers who demonstrated her amazing football tricks and skills and gave the girls a few tips.
Next up was a quick reactions zone with hand and foot skills and reaction times tested.
Our final zone, as they are young ladies after all, was a bit of hair braiding and face painting.
The girls really enjoyed the day and were outstanding ambassadors for Hill View School. Well done to Teegan H, Scarlett F, Ruby J, Keeley M, Lucie W, Alice H, Miley G, Imogen M, Evie W and Lucie B.
I am hoping that some of them enthused by what they saw will start playing football for local girl’s football teams.
Thank you to Oxfordshire Football Association for an excellent day and to Mrs. Thomas for her assistance on the day.
