Hill View School Launch Marathon Kids
On Monday 15th May 2017 we launched our Hill View Marathon Kids Project with an assembly to all KS1 and KS2 children led by a marathon kids leader.
The Marathon Kids Project is an initiative brought forward from the charity Kids Run Free.
The concept is simple – pupils are given the opportunity to complete a full marathon (42.2km/26.2 miles) over the duration of the school year by running laps of a measured course during their lunch break. The idea is that we are giving your children the chance to become healthy by choosing to run and participate in extra physical activity to that provided during normal PE lessons. All pupils that run the Marathon Kids programme will receive a certificate stating the distance achieved at the end of the programme.
After the assembly we held running sessions on the school field and were blessed by the weather with the rain stopping just in time. The children were very enthusiastic and ran with fun and great pleasure.
Marathon Kids will be taking place every day ‘weather permitting’ on the school field. As such, if your child wishes to take part in the challenge of running a marathon they will need suitable running shoes with them on each day.
Please encourage your children to take part and to make that healthy choice to run.
