Marathon Kids – Final Update
Congratulations to all of our children who have taken up the Marathon Kids Challenge. We have now finished the official challenge period and the data has all been collated.
The children have now achieved an astonishing combined distance of 7,292 Km or the equivalent of 172 full marathons.
Of the 427 runners in the school 99% have taken up the marathon challenge running an average distance of 17Km. We have 282 runners 66% who have achieved 10Km, 111 runners 26% have achieved a half marathon, 55 runners 13% have achieved 30Km and 27 runners 6% have achieved the full marathon distance to date.
The most successful Year Group were Year Five who have run a combined total of 1,687 Km at an average of 21.1 Km each.
Individual best runners in each year group are YR 1 Chandler R 45,400 M, YR 2 Manvik R 61,600 M,YR 3 Leo B 61,200 M, YR 5 Kai S 75,100 M and YR 6 Kyle T 40,700 M.
These are truly amazing statistics when you consider we have only been running for eight weeks and only five days a week weather permitting. Even more amazing when you think this has been completely voluntary by the children to take part in their lunch times. They have really stepped up to the challenge and many have reached or exceeded their own personal goals.
I am also pleased to hear of children inspired by Marathon kids who are taking up the challenge to improve their fitness by running outside of school. Some are also getting their family involved which is great to hear.
Keep up the hard work and remember we are also running this as a sponsored event so your children’s superb effort can also help raise money for their school. Please keep collecting and return the sponsor form and money to the office on Monday 17th July 2017.
Thank you for all the support you have been giving to the children.
