We were treated to some excellent weather and a good standard of cricket throughout the competition. Six different schools took part in the competition but we were the only school to enter three boys and three girls teams.
The format of the day was a boys Cup competition, a boys plate competition and a girls competition.
In the girls competition there were five schools competing with an A team and we had also entered a B and C team. Unfortunately this meant our B and C teams were always playing against the stronger A teams from all schools. Our A team played six, won five and lost one. Our B team played six, won two and lost four. Our C team played six and unfortunately lost six. However this was great experience for the girls and hopefully the experience gained will serve them well in the future. Our A team finished joint first with The Grange School on points and it then went to run difference which meant we were officially in second position. This was despite us beating The Grange in our head to head match. Our B team finished fifth and our C team seventh. This was the first experience of a kwik cricket competition for all of the girls and they all enjoyed it and represented the school with distinction. Well done to our squad of Cheneice W, Millie T, Emily R, Iris D, Nicole C, Zahrah K, Lucy E, Louisa T, Grace B, Bethany P, Nia P, Dorota W, Aston M, Bella R, Sienna S-L, Millie F, Layla B, Maria H, Sadie B, Ella H, Mia P, Ella A, Ruby H and Molly H.
Our boys also had an A,B and C team. The A team played five, won four and lost one in the cup competition. There were plenty of fours and sixs being hit, some excellent bowling, fielding and catching. These results put them in joint first position on points but again we lost out in the run difference count and finished in second position to Queensway who had beaten us by an agonising six runs. The B team in the plate competition won two, drew one and lost one leaving them in third position and the C team playing against all other schools B teams lost all four games. Nine of our boys were year fives so this will be great experience for next year’s competition. Well done to our squad of Alen V, Alfie J, Ethan A, Harley P, Ewan M, Charlie C-F, Nathan W, Jack F, Jayden H, Caius A, Kyle T, Anderson B, Alfie A, Alizar R, Cody E, Kian M, Charlie J-L, Cameron S, Tyler O, Oscar A, Harry C, Damian P, Luke C and Samuel R.
Thank you to the student leaders from Banbury Academy the staff from NOSSP and to Banbury Cricket Club for allowing us to use their fabulous facilities. And finally a big thank you to the parents who came to support and to Mr. Rose, Mrs. Jordan and Mrs and Mr Prinsloo for helping to run and encourage the children on the day.
On Wednesday the 14th June 2017 over three hundred children from Hill View joined the fitness coach and healthy eating guru Joe Wick aka The Body coach in his second live broadcast exercise class.
Year Four children filled the lower hall and Year Three filled the upper hall and were all raring to go when the class started.
They were joined by several other classes around the school.
All of the children worked extremely hard for the half an hour class and were joined by several of our staff leading the way. Thousands of school children took part in the event from all over the country.
Well done to everyone who took part and we are all looking forward to the next live broadcast from Joe.
On Tuesday the 23rd May Hill View Schools Year 3/ 4 football team had a fixture against Bishop Loveday for the second time in the space of four months. Our team were Alfie B, Ethan W, Joshua B, Henry P, Jay S, Luke T and Reid C.
The game started very well with Hill View on top keeping the ball well which lead to us creating some fantastic scoring opportunities. Hill View got on the score sheet first with some brilliant build up play leading to an unfortunate own goal, 1-0 to Hill View.
Bishop Loveday came back strongly and scored within a minute when a cleared corner fell to a Bishop Loveday midfielder on the edge of the box and they scored with a smart finish, 1-1. The game continued like a ping pong game with the ball first in Hill Views half and then straight back into Bishop Lovedays. This continued throughout the game which meant both teams showed some good attacking and defending skills and plenty of gaols for both teams.
The game ended 7-4 to Bishop Loveday. Our goal scorers were Ethan W two, Alfie B one and their own goal. Hill View played well, showing some good football skills and cooperation within the team representing the school in a calm and mature manner.
On Wednesday 7th June 2017 our year three and four tennis team attending the North Oxfordshire Area Finals tennis competition held at Banbury Tennis Club. Our team of Joshua B, David G, Joe B, Alfie B, Keeley M, Hadiqah K, Javaria H and Maja M were all seeded one to eight and following some friendly practise games they played against the same seeded player from the other three schools who had qualified for the finals.
The children were all very keen to get playing. The games were played on a half tennis court and using the red dot development tennis balls. Again the standard of tennis on display was a credit to all the children and some good sportsmanship was on display with line calls. The scoring for the competition was based on a first to ten scoring system and all of the games were closely contested.
None of our children play competitive tennis outside of school and to see how they have developed this year and from the last competition was very pleasing to see. Some of the ground strokes would not have been out of place had Andy Murray been on the court.
When not involved in the competition matches the children played each other on an adjoining court and enjoyed the freedom of a full size court.
At the end of the competition we had finished in fourth place just missing out on third. Despite this the children had all enjoyed the day and made good progress with their tennis development. Congratulations to all the children who took part and thank you to the staff and student leaders from Banbury Academy and Banbury Tennis club for an excellent event.
