Oxfordshire Year Five Kwik Cricket Competition
On Wednesday 12th July 2017 Team Hill View attended the Oxfordshire Year Five Kwik Cricket Finals at Kidlington Cricket Ground, Stratfield Brake, Kidlington, Oxfordshire.
Our Year Five Girls team had qualified for the competition but it was to be against Year Five boy’s teams so we were permitted to add some boys to our squad.
On our arrival the scene was set for a series of pool competitions leading to a final between the top two teams. It looked like competition was going to be tough and several teams were all decked out in cricket whites.
In this format we were to play two other schools, twice.
As predicted the standard of play was high and we lost both of our opening matches. However the team played very well and improved with each game they played. As confidence grew, our batting and shot selection improved and as a team our fielding was very good.
We then had to play the same two schools again knowing that they were probably stronger at cricket than we were.
Despite this we played with great spirit and determination and though we again came out on the wrong side of both results we could not have played better and the scores were much closer as we had learned from our experience in the earlier games. Our girls were the only ones in the competition and supported and encouraged by the boys they did themselves and Hill View proud with their performances.
I could not have been more pleased with the team’s achievement’s against tough opposition.
Congratulations to Jack F, Nathan W, Nicole C, Iris D, Alizar R, Louisa T, Lucy E, Charlie C and Zahrah K.
Thank you to Mrs. Cooke for helping out on the day.
